16 year old daughter? PHL-Bangkok...to phuket to visit sister.?
My eldest sister is 22 and is in Phuket, Thailand teaching English. In june my daughter, who will be 16 at the time; is dying to go visit her and see the beautiful beaches. My question is, she would fly from PHL to Bangkok and have to take a plane to Phuket, which is only an hour but thats not what worries me. Do you think its safe? I feel like if the plane is delayed, than she'll miss her fly to phuket and she'll be in Bangkok all by herself, I mean its a long flight. Would you allow your teenager to do this? Shes not nervous, shes flown before but I'm not sure if it sounds like a good idea. the only part thats holding me back is that she'd have to fly from Bangkok to Phuket, all by her little 16 year old white girl tourist self

Well you said the first flight is leaving out of Philly. If you've ever been to the Philly airport you would realize she would be lucky to make it on her first flight alive. The place is literally falling apart.

I don't think this is a real question. Will you please take Yahoo! Answers seriously?

Just be sure to leave plenty of time between flights. Customs, Immigration and baggage can easily take an hour in Bangkok and she'll then need to transfer to the domestic part of the terminal for her flight to Phuket. The airlines that fly to Phuket from BKK are Air Asia, Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways, other airlines may fly from the Don Muang domestic airport about an hour away, avoid those airlines. There are frequent flights from BKK to Phuket and if she does miss her flght she should have no problem getting a later flight. The Bangkok airport (Suvarnabhumi) is one of the most modern airports in the world and like all airports is heavily guarded with a large police and military presence, safety is not an issue.

well, there's no flight from Philly to Bangkok; where is she going to change planes along the way? Once she has cleared customs & immigration in BKK, I don't think it should be that difficult to find domestic flight (as long as you booked it from Suvarnabhumi and not Don Muang!) I haven't been through the new Bangkok airport, but I hear it's swanky. I presume you are planning PHL-BKK-HKT all on one ticket? If her flight into BKK is late and she has missed her connecting flight, she should get her in-bringing airline to rebook her on next available. Or how about this: have your sister go from HKT to BKK to pick her up, and take her back? Air Asia have some ridiculously cheap fares, if you book far enough in advance, and this could cost maybe $50 round trip. Or maybe spend a day in BKK getting over jetlag, then head on south? Cautionary tale: I did get a separate Air Asia ticket for like 2 1/2 hours after my intl flight arrived....but it was 3 hours late, so I missed the flight. As Air Asia ticket was separate, my original airline had no responsibility towards me, and as it was between Christmas and New Year's, there wasn't an open seat for 3 days....luckily stood by for Bangkok Airways and got out that evening. Phew! Hope your daughter has a blast! It is my favorite country to visit...
