What's rush hour traffic like: San Diego to Long Beach Airport?
I've got a flight leaving at 10am from Long Beach Airport, and I've got to figure out how much time to allot for the drive coming from San Diego (actually Del Mar). I don't expect any exact answers, but if anyone has made this drive during rush hour, I'd appreciate your thoughts on how gridlocked the traffic is.

My daughter made the trip from S.D. to Lakewood, Ca and it took about 3 hours. Good luck and drive safe.

my dad drove from El Cajon to Downtown L.A. in about 2 hrs, but on the way back there was a lot of traffic and did about 5hrs from L.A. to San Diego

2 - 2.5 hours. Allow more if you need to get on a plane. Traffic should be fine at that time. You might get some lunch time traffic when you get to the 405. The trick is to listen to traffic reports on the radio. KNX 1070 AM has them every 10 minutes. If there is an accident, you can easily lose an hour. The radio will help you avoid trouble and allow you to consider an alternate route.

You can go the long way (I-5 to the 405) or the short way (I-5 to the Toll Road to the 405). I live in Spring Valley and it usually takes me about 90- 2 hrs to get from here to Lakewood on the Long way, about 5-10 minutes quicker and $5 going the short way.
