6hr layover in Miami. Practical to hit the beach inbetween?
Now forgive my ignorance if this is an absurd question but: Would you consider it a stretch to get a cab, go to the beach, (even if its just an hour) and return back to the airport (Miami International) in time for my connecting flight? I would absolutely love to see Miami beach if Im going to be stuck in Miami for that long. But I am new to traveling and not sure if I will have enough time with all the pre-flight process. Plus Im not familiar with how the traffic is in Miami.

Depends what day you are traveling, on a weekday most likely won't be a problem, on the weekends, the beach traffic is busy and airport traffic is busier. You might even get time to have lunch but I would leave the beach about 1 and half or 2 hours before just to be sure. Miami is beautiful. I love it here. You should stay overnight!!!! We have the best nightlife. Make sure you use sunscreen, the sun is very strong down here.

maybe not to go to the beach... but at least to hit up lincoln ave and collins.. let me know if you need someone to show you around..=)

Yeah for sure... just catch the cab asap and head to southbeach tell the driver to leave you on 5th street and ocean drive then walk up ocean drive they have restaurants, bars, shops etc. i suggest you leave the beach atleast 2 and a half hours before your flight.

I wouldn't go to the beach. traffic is very unpredictable, even on a weekday, you may be stuck for an hour if there's an accident and they close the roads. And that is NOT so infrequent here. Plus, if you go to the beach you'll be all yucky with sand and there's not a nice plce to really shower and change... I'd rather go to a mall nearby and try to be back with plenty of time. You can always come back with time enough to enjoy, becasue if you missyour flight you'll be chewing your fingers off (not litterally of course :-) Good lck whatever you decide and hope someday you'll come back and stay a few days. Florida is really worth it!

its just not practical. I would say every week there are 2-3 people that come on here and ask the same question. At the end of the day, whatever you layover is...reduce that by about 1.5 hours to account for leaving the plane and boarding the new plane. Next you can set an hour or so for a nice lunch or something..so you already are down to 4 hours. Now lets be realistic. Takes about 25 minutes for a taxi ride (which is about 50 bucks one way). and what are you planning on doing with your luggage? and you will be all dirty with sand and you would be miserable. dont bother.

A cab is $32.00 + tip and about 45 minutes each way. If your outgoing flight is international you need to be there 2 hrs. early. So the answer is it is doable if you don't mind blowing a lot of $$ on what will be little more than a drive by.

yes you should have about three hours in miami beach since I am over estimating travel time: one hour to miami beach usually 20min, one hour back (worst case scenario never has happened) and one hour pre board (unless international hour and a half is fine) that leaves you three hours to see Miami Beach and if you never have i suggest it south beach is the closest to the airport and the nicest tell the driver to drop you on 8st and ocean drive check out gloria estafan's rest Larios have a mojito and walk over to beach
