I agree with the pilots that say it is who you know. If you know someone who works at the airline, they can submit your resume/application for you and say some positive things about you. That will get your application looked at first. Airlines receive a lot of applications from people wanting to work for them dreaming about flying to exotic destinations. You can submit an application and hope someone will look at it. My friend who is a pilot at UPS got his job because a good friend of his is also a pilot for UPS and handed my friend's resume to the appropriate person to look at. My friend got an immediate interview and was given a job. As for going to some training program, I doubt it will help that much. If you are hired by the airlines, they will train you. You should not have to spend your own money on some training that does not guarantee you a job. I suggest that since you live in the LA area, the largest airlines serving LAX are American, United, Southwest, Skywest and Delta. You can go to the airline websites and go to the career section and see if the airlines are hiring.

Are you looking for Commercial or Corporate Flight Attendant jobs? With Corporate, you WILL need FACTS training, and the pilot is right, it's a lot of networking and knocking on doors of the chief pilots for the various corporate flight departments. It's much harder to get into. If you're looking for Commercial airlines (i.e. United, American, Delta, etc), then you simply start applying. Minimum requirements is 18 years of age and a High School Diploma. Prior training is not required, nor is it even recognized, and FACTS training would be a waste of money in this case. You can see a lot of articles on becoming a commercial flight attendant on my blog at http://flightattendantcareer.blogspot.com/.
